Chain quicklinks

Hi. My neighbour has just bought their son a new (its second hand but new to him) bike. They've asked me if I'll have a look to make sure the gears and brakes etc... are all well adjusted and running smoothly. I've suggested they might want to fit a quick-link to the chain to make it easier to take on and off. The bike has 7 gears so will the chain just be a normal 7-speed chain and therefore they need a 7-speed quicklink, or do it not work the same way with chains on kids bikes? It has 20inch wheels so its getting towards a full size bike.

Why would you want to be able to take the chain off easily on a kid's bike? I'd just leave it as is, cleaned and lubed.

For exactly that reason, it isn't clean and lubed and I find it is easier to clean the chain having taken it off the bike. And...we live on a farm so cleaning it is going to be something that will need doing fairly regularly.

Yes, any 7 speed (or 8 but I've usually found them labelled as 7) will work....
