Hi Chaps,

I recently purchased a Yeti SB5C (It's Godlike)! Although I will be using it a fair bit, mainly for bigger stuff, long rides, trips etc, there are occasions where it would be good to have a Hardtail, to go out for a blast, if you know what I mean. I do a fair bit of XC / Woodland Tree Runs locally, with mates and its likely to get banged around and would prefer to do that kind of thing on a cheaper bike and a hardtail. I am looking at the 800-1000 mark for a bike or cheaper, and it has to be a 27.5/650b.

Im into the 1x or 2x setup (tbh having ridden the Yeti, I can't imagine anything other than a 1x, just do it!)

Any thoughts?

I am currently looking at options of a KTM Ultra Race (I can get for £1,000).

or an On One 45650B SRAM X9, which is £999

Any thoughts on alternatives?

Thanks,

Steve

How XC versus how Trail? The Boardman is excellent value, also the On-one Parkwood.

Links help so we know we are looking at the right bike.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • It's likely to be a bit of both. An all rounder. It's more a bike for when it's really shitty out, I can drag it out and have a quick blast, with too much worry. The Yeti's not cheap and I don't fancy dragging it round the local trails etc, over fences, hitting a tree or two (no major climbs or descents), and then we stop in a pub after type riding lol

  • Bird Zero for the win.

Current is what I run as my Winter hack but more than capable of being an all year, all conditions bike.
