Replacing broken Shimano brake/shifter

Hi,

My left hand shifter is knackered and won't change the chainset up and down.

I'm trying to source a 9speed Tiagra shifter from eBay. Am I right in thinking that a shifter from a bike fitted with a double chainset will work on a compact chainset?

    Or buy my 105 shifters and rear mech for probably not much more than a Tiagra shifter alone .....

    Matching brakes available as well.
