Bodes well for this year I suppose.

I was surprised, esp given that the two behind him are lining up for the hour so should be on decent form...

Points to hopefully a better year for Richie
  • He's not got pneumonia anymore and he's been doing what he's told by Kerrison rather than freestyling his training. He looks super lean too, been staying off the Toblerone. Bodes well, let's hope he doesn't get sick again.

Pretty impressive. Hopefully bodes well for a better year. Froome's going to need him.
  • Very hilly course? I know they said it was wet but it must have been otherwise 51mins for essentially a 25m TT is slooooow for men of this calibre. Maybe the elevation played in to his hands over the traditional TTers.

There was a hill in the closing kms which is where Porte made his time back to do a negative split, which Sky seem to train to do anyway on any course. He said himself that the hill was perfect for him.

Good win, as Frenchie says bodes well for his year.

He's spent the winter training and riding with Froome, maybe a bit more structured for him.

Does anyone know why Sutton isn't riding the RR? Not mentioned in the Sky release but is in the TDU squad.

Aussie national jersey will be on display in the Pro Tour Series as Von Hoff retained his title in the Crit champs.

    My feelings exactly.

Decent form but then he had a really good win the TdU last year as I remember

That's what I was thinking iain - That and his opponents are practising riding round and round in circles for an hour at the moment too...

It was reported a couple of weeks ago that Froome couldn't keep up with him in training. It's the last year of his contract too so he's obviously on for it this year.
  • Didn't Porte win the TT in the Tour of Romandy in 2010? He's no slouch

    4th in the 2010 World's TT and 6th in 2011. He's got a decent record.

No worries, with less than 140 m variations, the map exaggerates the climbs that is little better than a drag strip. (closed roads so no vehicles)

  • Just going to throw it out there, I think 51 on that course is pretty slow for UCI pros unless conditions were nothing short of horrendous. I reckon any of the 3 big boy TTers would do a 48 or better

There was quite a lot of rain.

  • I'm suprised people are surprised at Porte putting in a good TT. He's a good TT/climber, that's why Sky wanted him. He won the Criterium International TT in 2013. He was 4th in the first TT in the 2013 Tour.

As for the time I don't know, but it was raining, maybe that made a difference.

I am a bit confused by that profile though. It was an out and back course, surely both sides should be a mirror image of the other? It's not important but it is bugging me.

It is more or less the same, so I imagine it's just a shit profile. Unless the gradients really were affected that much by being on the opposite side of the road :D.

You'd certainly want to choose your line with care on the corners...

Surely the difference is, coming out the ones you descend are the ones you go up on the way back, so slight differences?

Porte appears on one of my sufferfest videos from a few years back and is high up the ranking I seem to remember so he's obviously been alright at TTs for a while ;-)

    2010 was peak Cancellara.
