Locks with insurance (I've searched....)

morning all.

all kitted up to ride to work this morning - and couldn't find the key to my lock which is attached to the bike shed at work.

After much grumpiness, I've decided since I bought said lock in 1996, I'd plump for a new one. I recall that there is a firm that includes insurance with the lock, but I've tried wiggle, google, and searching here, and beginning to think I have imagined it. Have I?

You are probably thinking of Kryptonite, if it's them it's not just a case of buy the lock and you are insured, it involves sending paperwork including receipt of purchase to them to register the lock to the bike.

That's if they still do it, I haven't looked at locks for a couple of years and I haven't known anyone that's ever put in a claim to them so I'm not sure how that would go.

I'made a claim (around '96 coincidentally) when there wasn't much in the way of internet.
I had to phone the lock manufacturer, in the US, and get a claim form posted out. This had to be signed by a Notary Public, and myself of course, then returned with all the keys, broken lock and bike receipt.
Couple of weeks later, I had a cheque for $1000

Unfortunately most thieves take the broken lock with them but Kryptonite's insurance is certainly better than no insurance.

Yep - had my MTB stolen last year and they took the lock. I assume they broke/cut the lock to get the bike but I'll never really know as it was gone too. (ps. my house insurance paid out, but obviously that would only work if it was at home or in my car).
