The rich season

I found last night's program about Sir Branson's island quite depressing. The heaven on earth where everybody is young and beautiful and rich and isolated from the world... his two blond PAs in bikini, his grotesque comment about "young single girls being well looked after" on the island, implying some form of socially acceptable escorting... it was all very beautiful and very depressing at the same time.

Could not agree more Ugo.
Was very odd IMO.
Sure the island is beautiful and I think his original aspirations for buying it, and his own personal enjoyment of it is partially a great thing.
At the end of the day its a business though and I found it very distasteful.
One minute someone was talking about work and money not being an issue/mentioned, then that woman said everyone wants to find out what you do and how much money you have. Something that was obviously key to going there for her and most people.
I do not mean to be 'fattest' but if you inherited a fortune at 21 and never needed to work, surely you would have oddles of time to look after yourself and get into shape.
Going to a 'paradise' island would then make more sense to me.
They said that everything is free once you are there, and that it was nice that the cost of things did not have to be mentioned, but thats because everyone knows that you are paying through the nose to be sucked up to by the staff.
I bet the guy that wanted caviar was acting like a right tw@t, and probably still does, recounting the story of how they got it for him, to everyone he meets.
The office girl seemed to be suggesting she shagged customers.
I got the impression that customers could just shag staff if they wanted.
I love quality but that place is not for me.
I stayed at the Houstonian hotel in Texas once. I was having breakfast alone, but was served by two members of staff at the same time. Some people would like that, but I felt uncomfortable.
If I do ever get the money I might be interested in his Virgin Galactic enterprise though.0 -
I should have expected it, from someone who runs an advertising campaign which is a replica of the one he used when pinching women's bottoms was OKleft the forum March 20230

We are just waiting for VTech to chip in defence of the wealthy and vulgar...
As far as multimillionaires go, I really like Alan Sugar's rudeness and no nonsense approach to life, while Branson wants to be seen as the smiley hippy billionaire, which really is grotesqueleft the forum March 20230 -

Alan Sugar is a little too obnoxious for my liking... it was pretty nasty to call that poor woman Fatty on Twitter the other day.
They are all odd though aren't they, I guess you just completely lose touch with reality when you're that wealthy.0 -
Its not the wealth, per se. Its the type of mindset required to get there in a ruthless, business world0

No idea what you are talking about... I don't do Twitter.
What I mean is that he comes across as a mature round individual, while I always have the impression inside Branson there is a pot smoking adolescent that wants to touch large breasts and do naughty things in his private island... he seems a bit of an idiot...left the forum March 20230 -

I would suggest however that stupid money - essentially limitless money - gives some people a God complex - especially when they have 'earned' it.
Often this kind of wealth has come about because these people were proved right, often against the odds. The reward is ridiculous wealth and the power that come associated with that. Is quite easy to believe your own guff at that point.0 -

Like it or not, in the 21st century you can't offend anyone anymore... there are still a few non protected categories that you can offend: drug addicts, alcoholics, people with a non acronym-designated condition, convicted and suspected criminals and a few others...left the forum March 20230 -

Could have had worse ramifications. He could have tweeted a cartoon. for some evil bastards to take offence. :evil:0 -
This island sounds like hell. I think I ought to be sent there immediately as punishment for everything I've done wrong. In fact the PAs mentioned should probably also inflict some form of corporal punishment whilst I'm there.0

Disappointed with this thread. Still no-one has put a picture of the aforementioned PAs.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

I used to be into water sports and spending a week learning kite surf with a dedicated expert would be fun, but other than that I don't see the attractiveness...left the forum March 20230 -

I've just watched it whilst the phones are quiet, I think you are all reading too much into it.
Its a holiday destination that price wise is really no different apart from it's location than many other places, price wise I am sure there are other similar destinations with a similar orientation.
If you let things like this depress you then that is sad.
I'm never going to be able to afford it like I could never afford a brand new Maserati or Ferrari, so what, I work hard, have some nice toys, a lovely family, good friends and don't need much more.
It's not for me a holiday like that, not because of the price but I would be bored, I don't bear any grudge against RB as he has worked his nuts off all his life and has taken a good number of knocks as well.
Leave him be, he is flamboyant and charismatic, but lets be truthful he is not like some of the rich a$$holes. I used to like Alan Sugar but sadly he has proved himself to be an egotistical maniac!0 -

VTech was probably on it, there was that older bloke with the younger wife who'd inherited money at 21, that might of been him"Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

I agree, plus he's giving a good number of locals some long term employment.
What, like the chambermaid who when asked what's the best thing about this job replied "home time" and when asked what the worst bit was said "getting up and coming to work""Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. I agree with this.
I also have a few friends who work for RB in the various Virgin companies, and they all speak pretty highly of both the company and Branson personally. He must be doing something right!0 -
I'm at work, and I only just made it through the first 10 minutes before being called off for something. I'm going to finish it up tonight once i'm home, but first impressions are good. That is exactly something I could do with right now.
A nice secluded island for the wife and I to simply relax without any stress, with beautiful views and lots of outdoorsy sports.0 -
