Shimano 8 speed drivetrain question.

I've got a Merida hardtail here with a 3 x 8 groupset. The rear mech is an acera and the cassette is an shimano hg30-8l. The chain is well over the 1% wear mark (only just got a chain checker ~ but its covered about 600miles off road, through some pretty sand and muddy terrain, so I am assuming that is a fair distance?) so I am thinking of changing the cassette as well as the chain, even though I've no idea if the cassette is done as well. So a couple of questions;

1. The Shimano Acera HG41 8 Speed MTB Cassette is going cheap on CRC, where as the hg30's seem a bit obsolete and harder to find / more money. Is this a straight swap for what is, in effect, a better component?. In fact, will any Shimano 8 speed do?
2. KMC 8 Speed chains ~ do they all come with the missing link, or only the more expensive ones? If it doesn't say it has one in the blurb online, do I assume it doesn't?

Many thanks!

    1: Any Shimano 8 spd will be perfect. Higher up the range mostly equals lighter.

    2: They do.
