Hi all

Apologies, but this is a similar question to one that I have already asked http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40042&t=12977634&p=18988615#p18987013, although this time I am asking which is best out of these two bikes:

I know that the Defy 1 has a slightly better groupset, but which bike would you choose out of the two - or is the answer really the same as it was in my other thread?

Thanks.

  • Depends on what you wanted to use it for. If it were for fast sportives or even dabbling in more competitive events further down the line then the Giant is 'better'.

However, if you'll be using it as a mile muncher or commuting bike then the Spesh has the advantages of the disk brakes (less/ no rim wear so you can use nicer wheels all year) and the 10 speed groupset will be cheaper to replace chain/ cassette when they inevitably wear out.

The new 11spd 105 groupset is nicer than the current Tiagra, but I wouldn't let it be a deal breaker if you're after durability and easier maintenance (e.g. the gear cables don't run under the handlebar tape)

Thank you for the reply. Although I want a commuter, I have just realised that the decision may be made for me - cycle surgery only have the Specialized in a 49cm frame.
