Superstar only had funny colours in 32t last time I checked, what about if I leave the granny on just in case I want to move it by hand for really long climbs while I adjust, can I keep same bolts?

Then you might as well leave two rings and a mech.

A couple mates kept their granny rings in place but removed the front mech. You can kick it down in to the granny but need to get off and move it back up by hand.
There's a definite advantage over the normal double set up, no front mech for a start but also there's better chain retention and the incentive to not use the granny unless you absolutely have to.
I did have one but just never used it. You certainly wouldn't notice the extra weight of it being there but you need to make sure your rear mech has the range to run it.
Superstar IO rings are pretty good. Don't go too small as you won't have enough for high speed descents.

Just ordered the on-one ring as it's currently a bargain. So feedback in a week or so!

Yeah liking the idea of less cluttered bar as well - dont think i'll use the granny ring that often.

  • Holy thread revival Batman!

Anyone bought a 30T Ringmaster? Does it need special short bolts like the 30T Superstar n/w rings?

32T version could re-use my existing 104BCD bolts from my existing 38T chainring?

A 30T has to be threaded as there isn't room for the larger bore needed for conventional male/female bolts.

The normal ringmaster is VERY thick and needs double ring length bolts to work but I don't know about the 30T.

  • Thanks, was probably going to order the 32T anyway, it matches my improved fitness needs pretty well with my 11-30 cassette.

  • I've got the On One Ringmaster, been running reliably since the Spring. Seems better built than the Superstar one I had before, but that lasted me the best part of a couple of years before it needed replacing.

I don't think I needed shorter bolts for either of the 'NW' chainrings I used - just used the bolts that fixed the previous outer chainring (originally 2x10 crank). Rookie's right, the Ringmaster IS thick!

That means you already had shorter bolts. 2x10 cranks have the shorter bolts for the outer ring.
  • Mines a 30T also, like the rookie said it is threaded and i used the bolts from my 2x10 doer crankset.
