Fsa Crank debonded from SRM

I've recently bought a 2nd hand pinarello with an SRM system installed on an FSA bb and carbon cranks. On my very cold and wet ride this morning, I noticed a knocking sound coming from the chain set and, upon investigating, found the drive side crank was wobbling all over the place. It looked like a thin seal of rubber was holding the crank to the SRM unit and had perished. I presume this isn't all that connects the two as I managed to nurse it home with no further deterioration in the state of the arm or the power meters performance.

Would some super glue around the seal to prevent the wobble be an effective solution? Google seems silent on this matter

    Any photos?

I would be surprised if it is relying on an adhesive to transmit torque. If it is then you're not going to repair it with superglue, you'll need a proper industrial epoxy and maybe an oven to cure it in.

  • Ok... We all moan when things go wrong, but credit where it's due. I rang SRM's customer services in desperation today, preparing to be told that they wouldn't touch an ancient, 2nd hand system with no warranty.

20 minutes later, the engineer confirmed that they are well aware of the problems with FSA K Force cranks, stated that they would replace them with Rotor 3d cranks for their cost price and fit for free, calibrate my unit for free and even let me jump the queue by driving my cranks over there to be fixed while I wait/drink their coffee/ get a tour of the premises.

    Top marks. :o

That's a good outcome. Whilst you are there can you either pocket a PC8 unit or twist their arm until they tell you when it will be out !!

Credit to SRM!. It's nice to know there's companies out there that understand customer service.
  • That was super cool! The waiting room was their lab with all the ergo bikes, blood lactate testing equipment, pictures of Ullrich and Zabel on the ergo bikes and walls full of signed jersies and pro bikes donated from teams.

The lobby had more of the same, including a Board man Lotus TT bike, and some signed stuff from athletes you don't associate with power meters (Gibo, Duclos Lassalle) and a cabinet full of old SRM gear and a special hand painted Cipo "lion king" tt helmet. Yellow jerseys from Armstrong, Evans and A white Jersey from Andy Schlock behind reception.

Like Willy Wonka's factory for bike fans
