Need a long overdue replacement inner ring (39T) for my mid '90s square taper Record chainset. Bit clueless on the parts front(!) - what do I need for this. Would this one at RIbble work?

Hmm. I replaced the inner chainring on an 05 Centaur chainset with Stronglight rings a few years back, but found the shifting quality deteriorated markedly.0

Thanks both. I'll give it a go and if it's not up to much perhaps get a TA one later?0

Maybe it wasn't on quite straight. Hard to see how a different inner ring could have any significant effect on shifting quallty - it's not as though they are ramped or anything (not that that ramping isn't mostly hype anyway).
I put a Stronglight inner ring on my 2010 Centaur chainset. No different to original. Stronglight rings are very good - but the Zicral ones are more akin to the orginal rings and last a good bit longer too. I'd pay the extra. It won't cost more in the long run.

It was the middle ring of a triple I replaced. To shift from the granny to the middle ring, you had to overshift badly to get the chain on the middle, and then trim the front derailleur back. It was a complete PITA, so I ended up replacing the whole chainset.
I just dug out the offending article, and the middle ring is actually a TA and not a Stronglight as I thought. Not sure of the model, but it has "Specialites" and "Vento" written on it. It'll be finding its way to a recycling centre at some point.
Edit: it was these I tried...
