Looking at possibly moving the lads annual Wales weekender to Scotland, change of scenery/accent/ale ......
Criteria is -
Need pubs and eateries on the doorstep of our base.
No more than 5 hours drive from Manchester.
Where have you stayed, where have you seen?

What do you want ?
Nightlife ? scenery and cycling,?
Adventure, or peace and quiet ?/
Give us a clue.Trek,,,, too cool for school ,, apparently0 -
Yup - I could recommend Inverness (I live up here) and there's plenty of good riding and it should be within your 5-hour window but your brief is pretty vague. You could possibly find somewhere nearly as good an hour or two closer (like Pitlochry from where the Etape Caledonia is run)ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

For sure the Borders. Peebles /Innerleithen. Good road cycling in lovely surroundings and the option to mix it up with some incredible mountain biking as a bad weather option. Good hire/guide options available too.0

Scenery, cycling, beer.
Not particularly in that order or any order.0 -
Peebles.
The area around there is used for a fantasic sportive (hills,, lots off em!)
Mountain biking galore at Innerleithen ,
And some great boozers, although you`d have to hit Galashiels for a wilder nightTrek,,,, too cool for school ,, apparently0 -
Pitlochry is indeed a good base. You could do the Etape Caledonia route, a blast up the Cairnwell to the Glenshee ski station as well as a bunch of other great rides. Some of the finest scenery in the UK.0
