Sloppy seat post

Hi. Need a bit of advice here.
Got the lady a new mtb / hybrid. We would like to transfer the seatpost and saddle complete from the old bike as it has a suspension seatpost which is much appreciated. The new bike is more modern and has a seat tube pretty much exactly 1mm larger than the old one. I am worried about tightening up the clamp on this as the frame is aluminium and I am not sure how ductile it is. I really don't want to mess up the frame by cracking the seat post.
I have done some googling but can't seem to find any info on how accurate the fit needs to be, and whether it is ok to expect some flexibility in the frame material (modern Trek).
(I did buy a titanium bike where someone had put far too small a seatpost in the frame, but of course that is a whole different world! Just got the right one and bent it straight.)

It needs to be the right size. Or make a shim.I don't do smileys.

Either buy a new seatpost in the correct size, or get a shim to make the existing one fit.0
