Thinking of getting one of these as a winter commuter and bit of fun run around. Anyone got any experience of either and recommendations? Would like to fit mudguards and at least 25 tyres.if not little wider.

I've got a Plug as a going to the shops/pub bike: love it.

Bombproof, simple, very cool - I've taken the stoooopid standard 'bars off and put some flats on, old Skool wide flat pedals, front brake only. Rides really nice, flat out on standard gearing goes 26mph down local dual carriageway whilst rider aero prone.

Standard Spoon saddle is very comfy - seems to be an aftermarket favourite as well.

    Recommended.

  • Had it got mounts for mudguards or is it a crud road racer job?

Let me head into the workshop in the morning and I'll confirm.

It has mudguard mounts front and back.
I run it fixed (first fixed bike) and like it as a change when I don't have much time for a ride.
Only had it a couple of months so my advice could be taken with a pinch of salt.
I quite like the bars as I'm out of the saddle a lot more and they seem to work for that.
I'd like it to be lighter but as I use it as a totally different way of training, I'm persevering in a masochistic sort of way and really like it for a hard workout!
The brakes are not good but I'm concentrating so much on the fixed part that I recalibrate stopping distances and interestingly I've found that the rear brake becomes more useful because the front doesn't have enough power for the rear to lose traction all the time.
In summary, I really like it but I'm sure I would feel the same way about most other single speeds and who's to know if I'd prefer a different one.

I had a couple of SE racing SSs (lager and darft lite) both had mudguard fittings and could take wider tyres - I used 32mm. I'd phone Merlin for info.
