A work colleague has just told me that her block of flat's garage has been broken into an 4 Bromptons stolen but other bikes were left alone.

Didn't realise the Brompton was so sought after by thieves.

Gutted for her though :(

Sadly they are very nickable. Easy to transport and hold their resale value very well. Leave one locked up London and there is a good chance it will be gone when you return.

    EFA

They hold their value very well and are very easy to sell.

I don't understand why anyone would leave one locked up. Surely the point is that you keep it in your flat and take it with you when you go into a shop/pub/cafė etc? Mine fits under the computer desk at home.

I once tried taking mine (folded) into a shop in Amsterdam and was told to take it outside. Unfortunately, it was the cable provider's shop which I had to visit else I would have told them where I'd like to park my Brompton!

I had to go into Barclays bank in my local town - forgot to take a lock with me, so walked in with my full sized bike and leant it against a wall ... did the banking then collected my bike and went out ... nobody said a word about it (to me!) :)
  • If you are sensible, polite and clearly with the intention of buying something, it's surprising how many shops will let you park your bike just inside the entrance. Not just Bromptons but normal ones. So many, in fact, that I almost never bother to carry a lock with me.
