Air Attack vs Evade.

It's time to use my voucher and get £50 off.

I have been looking at a Giro Air Attack £105 and the S Work Evade £160

Both look nice helmets, and fancy a semi aero helmet. Venting seems to "look" cooler on the Evade.

I am going with neither will increase my speed, but like the look and thought of a aero helmet.

Can anybody give there experiances with either helmets?

Thanks

I have the Evade, coolest (temperature) helmet I have owned, buy the one that fits.
  • I've tried both and preferred the air attack. No noticeable difference in cooling, the air attack just fitted better and I preferred the looks over the evade. Most comparisons will say that they are pretty similar in terms of performance so just buy the one that fits best.
  • Simple answer, try before you buy. It should come down to fit first. Both are good helmets.

Ive got a big head and find the only two brands that fit well are Specialized and Giro for me. Kask is ok but a bit of a pinch on my bounce. In the end the better fit was the Giro Attack for my noggin, but both have their own distinctive look and you won't go wrong with either.

Speed wise, who knows? all i can say is that on every ride where i've worn it i have been a few minutes faster over the very same routes wearing a normal lid. Coincidence? all in the mind? who knows, but even if it is, then its still working. Even if it makes you feel a little bit faster then its a small gain either way.

Style wise, i thought (before purchasing) that it was going to look a bit 'mushroom' on, but in fact it sits lower (profile wise) than the Giro Aeon i have.

As for ventilation, the Attack is slightly warmer than a normal lid with plenty of vents-again comparing it to the Aeon, but not excessively so.
Be warned, If you get the Attack shield with the lens you will look like Maverick from Top Gun, but that just gives you an excuse to say 'talk to to me Goose' to anyone you wish :D
  • Have the Air Attack Shield and love it - very comfy.

I've taped the only two holes over for winter to help keep warm (and get more aero!)

The Shield divides opinion, but I think the helmet looks a bit odd without it. It keeps the wind off your eyes and I can now flip it round in seconds with one hand (magnets).

+1 to the suggestions about trying them on

I have an Evade and its really comfortable, i cant quantify it with numbers but it "feels" faster than my Sworks 2D. The 2D is cooler when going slow / climbing but above about 18mph the Evade is nice and cool even on hot days.
  • Have you thought about the Giro Synthe? It's meant to be as slippery as the Air Attack and as light as the Aeon with excellent ventilation.

It's pricey (£170+) but it's definitely on my wish list.

    Thanks for the great replies!

The Evade is a nice looking helmet, I have tried it on and felt very nice compared to my cheap Giro Transfer.

But the Evade is £70 more than the Air Attack. Which points me towards the Air Attack, and the saving can be spent elsewhere for me. I shall have to try the Air Attack first and make sure it's a nice fit for me.

It's good to hear ventilation is good on the Air Attack too.

Yes - I've promised myself one but I want the full choice of colours at that price.
