Bike Braking **Disk Brakes Only**

I bike a lot with my friends and every time I brake, I have that annoying squealing sound coming from my brakes. To solve this problem, a few friends of mine and myself accepted the challenge to engineer a solution for school. If you could help us out by taking a quick survey, it would be greatly appreciated. Cyber thumbs up to everyone that helps!

Due to forum rules, I must provide the following:
I am an engineering student at Arrowhead High School who is conducting a survey in hopes to gather information on peoples views of bike braking systems and squealing brakes. I plan to use these data to settle on a solution to pursue. The survey will be closed by December 23, 2014. Give a few days after the survey closes and the results will be posted as a reply under this thread.

Make sure there is no grease on your rims. That causes brake squeal on my bike.

I took a quick look at the survey and it would appear you are only looking for info regarding disk brakes. You might want to flag that up front. This is the road forum and most people will primarily use rim brakes. It's a bit of a waste of time for them opening the survey!

As you'll have seen by the responses above, the reasonable assumption if you don't say otherwise, is that you're talking about rim brakes.

have done your survey but there's no space for any comments. My disc brakes (only) squeel like a piggy in wet weather which may be relevant to a solution.

  • Rough the pads up on a concrete floor, they're probably glazed.

Because badly setup and maintained rim brakes NEVER make an unholy din either!!
