Bike Braking

I mountain bike a lot with my friends and every time I brake, I have that annoying squealing sound coming from my brakes. To solve this problem, a few friends of mine and myself accepted the challenge to engineer a solution for school. If you could help us out by taking a quick survey, it would be greatly appreciated. Cyber thumbs up to everyone that helps!

Due to forum rules, I must provide the following:
I am an engineering student at Arrowhead High School who is conducting a survey in hopes to gather information on peoples views of bike braking systems and squealing brakes. I plan to use these data to settle on a solution to pursue. The survey will be closed by December 23, 2014. Give a few days after the survey closes and the results will be posted as a reply under this thread.

Unfortunately not a troll.
But thankfully not a result of the UK education system."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

So me and my mum are getting the stick for someone not making a survey properly
I had a feeling this was coming the moment i read "Arrowhead" in the original post... then i scroll down and unsurprisingly i was correct.0 -
Hey all,
"I like to have strong opinions with nothing to back them up with besides my primal sincerity. I like sincerity. I lack sincerity." ~Kurt Cobain
Cooldad--> Nope, yep, gonna - none of those are words. I was just trying to save you from the insanity of filling out a survey.0 -
Kurt Kobain was a genius musician. One of the greatest son writers of the last 40 years and a brilliant guitarist and singer but a idiot junkie who did talk some b0ll0cks.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Still... makes for a snappy quote0

I was just trying to save you from the insanity of filling out a survey.
Think you meant inanity, not insanity. Clearly the US education system is continuing to surpass itself.
The survey is pretty lame though, jokey answers aside, questions about replacing my brakes with one which has the same performance etc, you're basically asking "how much would you pay to stop your brakes squealing?".0 -
and if the combined R&D of the giant bike component manufacturers are yet to find a solution for all situations then how is your small team going to fare?0
-
Hev a read up on brake pad changing. Some compounds can lead to squealing when braking, depending on the fitting (I did a DIY job on my discs some time ago and had to work on some interference due to maladjustment of the piston at the rear).
Edit. PS. I did take the (brief!) survey. I appreciate your intentions in the wording but, from my perspective at least, it does not come across as a serious survey should.0 -
Is Punt a Squirrel a euphemism.
As the survey writer is from the US and therefore believes the world is 4,000 yeras old and Dinosors was around like the same time as Adam, euphemism is like some words that dont meen wot thy suond like.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -

Neither do mine, but they hurt like hell!
My brakes squeal very occasionally as well.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
