Just put some new Strade Bianchi tyres. http://road.cc/content/review/117460-ch ... 30mm-tyres

OMG, was that hard work.

I hope it gets easier when they are a little stretched.

Anyone got any special tips? Most tyres I can take off and put on with my hands. No levers. For these I needed three levers and three hands!

Recently with all my tubeless adventures the VAR tyre lever has been really helpful. In the past I mounted the tyre as far as possible, putted the inner tube on pressure and let it rest for a night. Next day it was easy to mount the last part.

Will the other cyclists be able to see it and wave back? :D

Any wave is better than no wave
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

Thanks, but that tyre is way, way easier. The Strade Bianchi are such a tight fit first time round that there is no slack to work round.

I did eventually get them on, and left them pumped up hard overnight. Today I took them off by hand, and then installed them again with no levers, just using normal technique. It seems there is just an initial stretch to get through.

Interesting that they have a pressure range stamped on them of 90 to 130psi. Way too hard IMHO. I am going to run them at 85/75. They do look the DB's though.
  • First run on them today. At 75 psi. Super smooth and not in the slightest spongy.

Interestingly, I stopped by the LBS and asked the two very experienced mechanics what pressures they thought my tyres were at. The both gave them a good squeeze and agreed 90psi. I think I would have said the same roughly. The tyre by hand feels a lot firmer thsn the actual pressure would suggest, but didnt feel harsh to ride on either.

Lots of back lanes and no punctures so far.

Is it something you do often? I mean stopping to your local LBS for a quick quiz & trivia session?

Of course. Where else am I going to get free coffee and a chance to have someone take the p*ss out of my outfit?
