Will these wheels make a noticeable difference?

Hi I have a Giant Revolt 1 as my winter/cx/touring bike and I am considering upgrading the wheels from the stock Giant SX-2 wheels to the Mavic Aksium one disc wheel set. I'm just wondering if it's worth the upgrade?

Cheers

    100% waste of money.
  • Depends... the Aksium will roll well as they run on decent cartridges but won't be significantly lighter than yours. If you feel your wheels don't roll well (notchy bearings for instance) then it might be worth the "upgrade".

I think for the money they are a very decent buy, the problem is whether you need them or not.

Personally I would wait, save a bit more and get a set of bespoke, tubeless ready disc wheels built around your body weight and requirement (mileage, riding terrain etc.. ) when your current wheels are shot.

  • Save your money for something better. Last week I upgraded from my Aksiums to Token c55a Carbon Alloy clinchers. About the same weight. At low speeds there's no difference. Where the new aero wheels perform better and I'm seeing this in my Strava segment PB's is they are noticeably faster at high speeds i.e. 35km/h +. I can ride faster and maintain higher speeds.

The Aksiums are a nice wheelset for the price however and I agree they do roll well.

All wheels with smooth bearings roll well though.
