multi-tool that doesn't go bloody rusty?

Is there such a thing? If so, can anybody recommend one? Mine just live in my riding bag permanently, whether it's damp after riding or not, and the ones I have currently are rusty as fuck. Though they are cheapo - superstar and decathlon.

Are the Lezyne stainless ones any good? Only issue I have with these is that the top level one has a load of pointless shite on it, and the one below it is missing some useful bits. Gah. How difficult can it be to get a multi-tool right?

I have a basic Lezyne multi tool. It's about six years old and no sign of corrosion.

I have half a dozen and none are rusty. Cheap or expensive.

Why the hell do you need half a dozen of them?

You probably take better care of yours than I do. My decathlon one is still reasonably okay, despite being about ten years old. My superstar one is only a year or so old and it's fucked.

Take better care of your things? That being said, my Lezyne one isn't, and I've probably forgotten remove it from a soaking pack a few times in the four years I've had it...

I've got a few tools in that bag that are fine. The multi-tools are the only ones to have suffered.

Collected over time. I have a dozen or so bikes. I don't need all of them neither.

  • Just put it in a zip lock bag.

Same here and mine is fine.

I also put everything (multi tool, quick links, patches) in a zip lock bag. Stops it all getting lost in the nooks and crannies too.

4 year old Lezyne looks like new, 2 year old Scott looks like new, both have had regular soakings.

Gerber Cool-Tool, circa 1996 I think. 'Tis absolutely fine. Lives in the Camelbak all the time. Used to go on the road bike as well but since replaced on that with a couple of essential Allan keys and a chain tool.

I still use my 1990 cool tool, plus a few extra Allen keys.
