Garmin 810 stopped pairing with iPhone 5c

My Garmin paired ok when I started off riding yesterday but lost the pair mid ride and now won't connect at all. I'm running software 3.20 and have checked on the Garmin Express app that this is the most recent. I've checked that Bluetooth is still working fine on my phone, which it is. I've also tried telling the iPhone to forget the previous connection and have then used the Bluetooth>pair smartphone option. The Garmin says it is "now discoverable" and the phone says that it is discoverable too. But they won't find each other. I've tried running the Garmin battery down to zero and then recharging. But I just can't get them to pair again.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

  • Bluetooth is a dark art.

You have tried everything I would have suggested.

What about trying to link using ANT plus instead?

That's a dark art I'm not familiar with. How would I do that?
  • Blimey, it really is a dark art. After lots of unsuccessful attempts, I've tried again, and this time it worked. First time, the phone did discover the Garmin but said "pairing unsuccessful". So I turned Bluetooth off and on again on my phone and went back to the bluetooth settings on Garmin and paired again, this time successfuly. Yet another example of the Garmin being great when it works, but frequently just choosing not to work. I really hope that a competitor comes in soon and provokes them to sort their act out. :x

Or maybe it is a problem with Apple's Bluetooth implementation on their devices?

Yup, possibly. But on the balance of probabilities, based on the number of times my Garmin has failed in other ways (locking up mid ride, deleting courses, losing satellites) and the way that it failed this time (i.e. the iPhone bluetooth was continuing to connect to other Bluetooth devices) I think it is much more likely to be a Garmin error.
  • I had the same problem with my 810, motorcycle helmet intercom and an iPhone 6.
I could pair one of the devices with the phone but not both, it was really weird.
I had to do a full reset of all three devices to get them to work- words great now.

My iPhone 6 sometimes refuses to pair with my BMW X5.

When will Garmin sort this problem out?

    Oh, wait a minute...
