I want to allow my front mech to travel a little further outwards , at the moment if I want to move the chain from my inner 36t chainring to my 50t chainring I really have to push my 105 5700 shifter all the way across to the right to make the shift. By allowing the mech to push a little farther to the right I don't think id have to push the sti quite so far over, could somebody please tell me how to do this as im not sure if its a limit screw or cable tension I should be looking at.

Many thanks

It's the outer limit screw that determines the travel of the mech to the outer chainring. BUT if you let it push the chain too far it'll fall off the outer ring just when it's most inconvenient. And it won't reduce the lever travel - the opposite in fact, as you set cable tension when the chain is on the inner ring. You can help reduce the final shift travel by taking up the trim "click" on the shifter before the final shift to the outer ring.
