XC Racing Wheel Set

Hi All
I'm thinking of doing some XC racing next year, I'm riding a Giant Anthem 29er and I'm thinking some stronger lighter wheels would be a good place to start on improving the bike, I've got around £250 + or - what would you recommend ?
Must admit the more I look on the net and read the reviews the more confusing it seems to get.
Or is it better to use what I've got until they need replacing ?

One would assume his current wheelset.

I have a funny feeling a link to the bike might not give a breakdown of weight.
A scale might.
So yes, you are equally useless.

Front 953g, rear 1215g with rim strips, doesn't take much to google it http://forums.mtbr.com/giant/giant-p-xc ... 75185.html
Or in plain English, as heavy as F***.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
I think mine might be a bit more than that as mine are the S-XC which aren't supposed to be as good as the P-XC.
Anyone got any recommendations on wheel sets or people that make them ?0 -
