Best XC wheelset for £150

Hi, i am looking to get a new wheelset, as the freehub on mine is really on its last legs. I managed to save it once by soaking it in white spirit to remove all the crap out of it. And its seriously not worth replacing, especially because id have to get one sent over from america. (the freehub is a really dodgey fitting).
My current wheelset is Alex DM22 rims on Joytech hubs with unbranded spokes. The alex rims are true-ly excellent as ive never bent them once (great pun, i know). But the hubs are pretty poor IMO.
I got front and rear for roughly £100 together off ebay a while ago.

I want a set for roughly £150. Anything above would be sort of overkill for me anyway. Ideally i want the lightest set possible as i will be using it for XC, strength-wise i should be fine with XC riding.
The best set ive found are these ones:

Anyone else have any suggestions?
Thanks.

I assume from your link you're after 26" wheels.
If it was my money I'd buy second hand.
There seem to be loads of 26ers cropping up on ebay, gumtree & pinkbike.
I've seen some nice mavics, fulcrums, stans crest for about that kind of price bracket.Padyak rider0 -
Yep, 26ers. I have thought about it, but last time i tried linking my paypal account with my ebay i had hassle. Might try again soon.0

Those Superstar wheels are about the best you're going to find new.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Yeah thought so. as i checked CRC and Wiggle etc and nothing even came close really. Hopefully there will be some sort of sale, then the more expensive superstar ones will come down to nearer £150. The 2 year warranty and lifetime truing is good too.0

New year will be the time for offers......Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Yep, thats when ill be getting a set hopefully.0

hand your wheels over to a shop that builds wheels and get them rebuilt with Shimano XT hubs that will cost you £60 for the hubs and around £60 labour. New spokes will add £30 (sapim race bouble butted stainless steel) at the most. Centre lock to 6 bolt adapter are £20 and you will have a much better wheelset (if it is built right) than anything you can buy off the shelf for £150.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

Hmm never thought of doing that. Not sure if id still go for those superstar wheels or not, just to save me the hassle. Plus XT hubs are probably overkill.0

No need for an adaptor, XT hubs can be had as 6 bolt, it's only XTR that are centre lock only.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

The current M785 XT hubs are centre lock only. the older and out of production M756 XT hubs are 6 bolt but alot heavier. there is a fair bit of old stock left in various places but it is touring cyclists that prefer the M756 hubs.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

Wow thats a bargain. I completely forgot about Merlins. Never checked there! Two questions:
Are they better than the superstar wheelset i linked?
Can those Olympic rims be used with tubes?0 -
They use better spokes (Alpina double butted) and a lighter rim than the Superstars.
Hubs are quite basic, but last well and are easy to service. Yep, can be used with tubes.0 -
They are 'different' to the SS wheels, the total is similar (the rims are about 160g lighter each and the spokes will save about 35g per wheel as well, the hubs will be heavier though - rear by about 220g). Looked after the Shimano hubs are great, but I always replace the grease with red rubber (waterproof) grease straight away, my M475 hubs didn't need touching in 4000 mile and 4 years after that (although where checked regularly).Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Ill probably buy these ones tonight then sounds like a good deal, thanks for sending me the link.
I dont mind about hubs because i can easily service them, and i can replace the freehub if i get troubles with it at any point unlike my current hubs.
I have loads of quality grease (Mobil 1 and Loctite + others) but ill keep the factory grease at first probably.0 -
Superstar are also doing 30% off custom wheelsets today only I think0

Went for those Merlin ZTR Olympic rims with Deore hubs. Cant wait for them to arrive!0
