Hi im new to cx & ive just ordered some clement crusaders pdx hoping they will be a do it all tyre for cx races,as didn't want to have mutiple tyres for different course condtions?
Wanted something ok in mud but not too knobby for faster drier courses etc
This is the course for the next race:

Looks all grass not sure how muddy it will be but the last race in the series was really muddy, but the one before that not much mud at all.

Those tyres will be fine, but maybe next time, ask the question before ordering..?0

I've done a shedload of research, then settled on those tyres. £26 each from PBK seemed ok.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

They look pretty good all-rounders - better to have too much knobble than trying to run semi-slicks in all conditions. The amount of time you lose with too-aggressive tyres isn't too much, but if you've got no grip, then a slide or a fall will lose you lots of time.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Yep. I tried, in medium conditions, my px (kenda small block type) last week. I got handed my arse. No grip. Took all my confidence away. Pdx on for next weekMy blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

I think should to order some wider tubes atm using some 23c-25c road ones thinking they they might be increased risk they pop sometime with 33c tyres even at lower psi? 8)
Also they claim here wider tubes = less pinch flats at lower psi?

DO NOT run CX tyres with road tubes, it's too unreliable. As you suggest, you need to get larger diameter tubes.Pannier, 120rpm.0 -
Ok iv'e ordered them.
145g seems heavy though, do alot of people use thoose challenge latex ones?
Are latex as good as the hype about being faster rolling etc or are they just more hassle* & more puncture prone?0 -
It's CX, I'd not worry about it. I'm running the 5 for a tenner ones from Halfords...................My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

I do and it's not because they're faster rolling or lighter, as that's probably negligible for cross, it's because they're far less susceptible to punctures in particular pinch flats. Nearly all tubs have latex tubes inside which should tell you something, Continental being an exception. I've used them all season running as low as 18psi and not pinch flatted. I would add this is with Challenge open tyres which have a high TPI and are very supple which is half the equation. Not sure if you'd get the benefit of latex tubes with a tyre with a low TPI and hard vulcanised casing.0 -
The clement are 120tpi so fairly high compared to some tyres but i see some of the challenge are 300tpi0

If your rims are tubeless, try the Vittoria XG TNT... I really like them and at 27-30 PSI they seem to come nicely with mud... somehow I find them better than the tubed versionleft the forum March 20230

Not at all unexpected but, fitted new front PDX on tonight in preparation for Sunday. Didn't remove mudguards (bike doubles as commuter).
Put wheel back on. Stuck fast. That's how much bigger 33c PDX's are than 33c PX Uncle Johns.
Bodes wellMy blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)
