rear hub axle query

It looks like I need a new rear hub - annoying but not actually the end of the world as i have the money for a new wheelset sitting there, and have just been umming and ahhing on actually committing or whether I should spend the cash on something else.
First things first I can't find the specs of what my bike (whyte 901) rear axle is, it's qr so I'm assuming its 135 by 9 as this seems the default?
Second things second - i have a dream that is slowly turning into a remote possibility for a new frame which has as 142 by 12 bolt through rear axle. It seems like you can convert hubs between the two. Is this correct? So if I get a hope wheelset now I could actually use it on any potential future frame just by buying a conversion kit. It looks that way from the hope website but I just need to check I'm not being a 'tard
And finally are hubs that are converted any worse/less durable than hubs specifically for an axle standard?

Hope hubs can be converted and it makes no difference to durability. The entire axle assembly is replaced but it's a fairly cheap conversion.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
