Headset sizing rage

Hi, so the headset on my 2013 Felt Z95 has been getting very rough.
Cane Creek's headset fit finder suggested the following:
Upper - IS42/28.6
Lower - IS42/30
So I bought this (second option) from the LBS:
http://www.mcconveycycles.com/store/pro ... -Standard/
Tried to fit it last night, doesn't fit!
The actual bearing cartridge seems too tall. So when fitted onto the headtube the cap doesn't cover the bearing cartridge - it's left exposed. No amount of fiddling or swearing seemed to work. The photo shows the old cartridge on the left and the new ones on the right. You should be able to see the size difference. Any clues to what I've done wrong?
On the plus side I had to refit the old integrated headset, and it is much smoother with a clean and regrease.

So was the plan just to replace the bearings and did you measure the O.E. bearings before you reassembled your headset? If so find a local bearing stockist and see if they have any. Alternatively try this company,

It's an integrated headset with sealed bearings. My understanding is you can't replace the individual bearings?0

Yes correct, however I meant the cartridge bearings not the individual bearings within the cartridges.
Did your O.E. cartridge bearings have any serial numbers on them? For example the FSA Giant cartridge bearings on my Defy Overdrive headset are marked,
Top bearing
TH Industries 1-1/8" ACB 45⁰ x 45⁰ 870 Compatible W/Campy AE
Bottom bearing
TH industries 1-1/4" ACB 45⁰ x 45⁰ 970# CrMo
From what you describe you need shallower cartridge bearings for your set up. If it is an FSA have a look on their website. http://www.fullspeedahead.com/product-c ... t_type=7350 -
OK, I'll check for serial numbers and try the website. Cheers.0
