Looking at adding an Aero model to the garage, looking at 2 models currently. The Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 8.0 and also the Giant Propel Advanced Pro 0.
But trying to decide which is doing my head in, any views from the massive?

Thanks

Generally, the Aeroad SLX is meant to be phenomenal (someone on here has one on order) but could take forever to arrive.

The propel has the most ridiculous looking internal cable routing coming through the TT, but does look badass otherwise.

I have the Aeroad 8.0 on order. IMHO it is a better looking bike. I'd also rather have the Reynolds wheels over Giant's OEM ones. There is a long wait for the Canyon though. Mine was due Week 42. It's now week 49 and still no sign of it. Last I heard it was 85% likely to be with me this week...
  • Its not easy to get the Propel Advanced Pro 0 either though. I was waiting for ages and the date kept getting pushed further and further back so I went and bought something else.

Thats the one i was looking at myself and agree the wheels are of a higher spec, looking at the website and availability it looks like if i order now it will be Feb before i get it, how long ago was your order placed?

If it was me I'd order the Canyon. If I already had a bike to train on I wouldn't be put off by 2 or 3 months waiting at this time of year. I might be a bit more impatient if it was May or June.

Have you considered a Cervélo S5? Oh wait! They are dull as ditch water. As you were. Riding pal has a Canyon aeroad and it does look smart. Funny sizing he says though. Look at a size smaller than you would normally ride if you go for one.
  • Giant Propel all the way, far better bike and proven pedigree. Someone mentioned the wheels but they are being compared to Reynolds Assault wheels so equal to anything on the Canyon. The new Canyon is unproven and people suggesting you get it are probably Canyon fans but it doesnt stack up to the Propel. Its just fanboy rhetoric.

Better after sales with Giant to, i know quite a few people who have Canyons of one sort or another and had to send them back or wait for replacement parts.

Get a Giant Advanced Pro 0 in orange and youve got the bike everyone will be talking about next year and generally considered the best paint job out there.

I am sure Joaquim Rodríguez would disagree after topping the UCI world tour ranking 2 years on the run while riding a Canyon - a lot of the time that being an Aeroad - For Katusha. Think the bikes have earned their pedigree. Oh and Quintana winning the Giro while riding a Canyon for Movistar. What have Giant riders won recently less Marcel Kittel who would win sprints on a kids Tricycle at the moment bearing in mind he doesnt have much competition and is a Fooking animal.

Not sure about the pedigree bit. Canyon have done ok with Katusha and Movistar in the last 3 years and the original Aeroad is pretty well thought of.

Reynolds Strike, not Assault. Certainly a more proven wheelset than the Giant OEM one. New Canyon was ridden to 2 TDF stage wins this year. So hardly unproven. Doubt they'll have made it worse than the Aeroad. I note the Giant has OEM brakes as well rather than Ultegra.

Yep. This is the price you pay for the savings you make.

As for the paint - that's pretty subjective!

Canyon geometry looks more aggressive - that would sway me towards the Giant which in itself is still full on race geometry. Very much a case of what suits.

What gives the Propel it's "proven pedigree"?
Obviously there's a difference in after sales service but that's a choice not a failure.
Your e-mail is hardly credible given how you've written it. You make unsubstantiated and subjective claims about the Propel's superiority with nonsense terms like "pedigree" and accuse everyone suggesting the Canyon of being "fanboys" but then you finish off saying the Giant is "the bike everyone will be talking about next year" and "generally considered the best paint job out there". i.e. More subjective nonsense and much more inkeeping with the "fanboy" label than anything anyone else has posted.

A bit off topic but any opinions on how the new Canyon Aeroroad would perform against the Ultimmate CF SLX (sl) model for general all round riding but with more emphasis on hills?

The SLX (6.1 kg) is lighter than the Aeroroad at (6.95kg) so I'm thinking that would have the benefits on hills.

The aeroroad in Red is a nice looking machine though.

I'm thinking of one or the other for the summer.

All these comments on the Giant wheels - can someone point me in the direction of a review/specs. The 2015 Advanced Pro 0 comes on Giant's all carbon clinchers. These have not been officially released in their own right and are only sold as part of a bike package.

I d take Canyon after sales support any day over Giant, yes Canyon have had some issues with their SLX frames but they deal with it and ime they are real enthusiasts about their bikes.

    Canyon all day, every day!

The SLX is more of a climbing bike than the Aeroroad, though JRod rides the Aeroroad all the time.
  • I think the Canyon looks great, but I would never commit several thousand pounds to them based on some of the horror delivery stories we've seen.

'February' is just a guideline, it could be March, April, who knows?

It doesn't really inspire confidence in the company if they can't actually get the bike to you on time.

Maybe I'm just impatient, but when I've bought my new bikes (well, frames) I've made sure they're in the shop owners hands, as 'it'll be here next week' just does my head in…..

It's down to expectations really. If you know there may be delays and you're willing to wait, all is well.
If there are unexpected delays there's nothing to stop you cancelling your order and buying locally. The majority of slow delivery stories revolved around the Ultimate CF SLX last year which Canyon had serious problems getting out the door on time. Some have also reported delays on Ultimate CF and Endurace bikes but not on the same scale I think. Also remember that these are popular bikes, ordered online and it's when there's a problem that people tell you about it. There are clearly some delivery date issues but I wouldn't and didn't let that put me off. Mine arrived exactly as forecast when I ordered and I'm sure the same is true for lots of people, they just don't make much noise about getting what they expected. Incidentally, IIRC they didn't charge until they were shipping the bike so it's not like you were paying for something and then living without it as is the case with a lot of online pre-order stuff.
