Giro 2015

Not sure if this is in the right section (mods please move if not)...
I'm looking into the possibility of attending the Giro next year to watch the opening stage. I'll be going with my partner and 18mth old son so I figured being able to see lots of action as opposed to 20 secs when they fly past would be a good option.
I wondered if others were planning on attending and if they had already considered the logistics from the UK?
Thanks

Me and a mate are heading over for a week to watch a few stages, going from Pisa to Napoli - really looking forward to it although I imagine the logistics will be a massive headache.0

That would be the Italian Express Train direct to Milano.Organiser, National Championship 50 mile Time Trial 19720 -

I was thinking of getting to Nice and then driving over (about 50 miles) to either the start or finish which I believe is in San Remo.Trainer Road Blog: https://hitthesweetspot.home.blog/

San Remo is easily accessible from Nice, so that's a good place to base yourself and accessible from the UK. I'm not sure driving is the best option, both the coast road and the autostrada are likely to be very congested whilst the race is in the area. The train might be a better option and the train station in San Remo is right in the centre of town.0

Cheers for the train tip, I'd have to agree that would be my preferred option.Trainer Road Blog: https://hitthesweetspot.home.blog/

I spent a week in San Remo back in 2001, to coincide with the Giro visiting. A mate and I flew to Nice, then got a bus into the station, hopped on a train and were in San Remo within an hour or so. Our hotel was just across the road from the station so it was really straightforward.
I don't remember how much it cost, but it wasn't a lot. We got a cab from Nice station to the airport on the way back and that cost an absolute fortune (something like £35 for a 10 minute journey) and that does stick in my memory.0 -
Flights to Nice less than £75pp, accommodation even in Monaco is less than £300 for 3 nights. Certainly not beyond my limits.Trainer Road Blog: https://hitthesweetspot.home.blog/
