Cateye EL530 4 x aa battery front light

So my Cateye EL530 front light has finally died.
No shame to it. I reckon it served me well through 3 winters 2 crashes and countless accidental 'droppages'. I loved that light. Nice and bright on 4 aa batteries that always seemed to last for ages.
I was just going to buy a direct replacement but can't find one anywhere. Seems Cateye have discontinued it (why?!). So I then looked for a similar one (4 aa batteries, single led, similar candlepower, etc.) but it seems the world has moved on to rechargeables in the time that I have been happily using my EL530.
So my question is two-fold:
1. Anyone know where I can get hold of a EL530 (or similar)? (ideally from Cateye but would consider other brands)
2. Should i trust that Cateye knew what they were doing when they discontinued it without another similar product, embrace a bit of change, and start looking at different designs? If so what?
