for an online retailer to fulfil an order for an item showing in stock, ordered, paid for and then delay in dispatching..
.. before you get slightly a bit impatient and start wanting a refund?

Everyone gets judged by the standards of the likes of Chainreaction who get stuff to you within a day two now but I'd say a week is reasonable for most."Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

Pretty amazing how good delivery times have become overall; I agree though 7-10 days seems about right.
Back in the day, when you ordered anything via mail order, you could almost guarantee the phrase, "Please allow 28 days for delivery." Imagine the horror!Big Red, Blue, Pete, Bill & Doug0 -
As above - Merlin, Evans and CRC set the standards at next day delivery as promised (and free at that!) but I'd allow a working week before a very polite phone call.
Anything longer than 10 days you're probably dealing with Planet X who need a kick up the jacksey anyway.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Depends on what delivery option you chose/paid for.
If you paid for next day and it takes a week then yes, i would be upset too.
But if i just clicked on the free standard option as i usually do then i would expect 5 working days unless the t's & c's state otherwise. My winter bike is exactly the same as my summer bike,,, but dirty...0 -
They state 4 -5 days for the EU for actual delivery. However, what I ordered has not even got itself into dispatch yet. I had been promised today but as yet no confirmation received.0
-
When was the order placed? i take it you have contacted the supplier to chase it up then if you were promised it today?
sounds like they did not have one in stock to meMy winter bike is exactly the same as my summer bike,,, but dirty...0 -
I live on on an island, so I expect the odd bit of postage delay. However, in the circumstances you quoted I would expect them to ship the next day at the latest. If they hadn't I would give them one more day to respond to my complaint. If they missed that deadline I would cancel, even if it meant paying more or waiting longer.
If you allow bad service it will not got better. It's like someone riding like a muppet on a group ride. Shape up or ship out.0 -
Just had dispatch email... I was getting a touch concerned considering ... it wasnt just for a pair of woolly socks put it that way.0
-
E-mails can be ignored, passed over, deleted without being read; so best way is to pick up phone if you are doubting the supplier's efficiency - and get a name.
Sometimes the old ways are the best.
If the item is out of stock, how long before they will have it?, if that's not good enough cancel order and want the money in your account within 5 working days. Get your bank to refund re non delivery of goods purchased.0 -
I paid for a set of wheels from 4theBike in Germany on the 6th November, but apart from the initial emails upon order, I have heard nowt from them. I do expect it to take longer with it being overseas, and I have read on here that they don't necessarily communicate that well - but it does state on their website that an email will be sent on dispatch, so I'm kind of in the same boat.
They actually look to have updated their website, looks far more modern now, but the 'My Account' section wasn't working earlier today so I couldn't check it.
The website does say the wheels in question are out of stock, so I am assuming there might be a stock problem - I am in no rush to get them, as long as I DO get them I'm not that bothered how long they take, (but at the end of the day they have had my money for over two weeks now...if there is no communication from them by the end of this week then I'll contact them).
Ordering online is great, especially the bargains you can get - but it does come with the obvious disadvantages such as not being able to see the product before you buy, extended delivery times, things going out of stock, even the odd pricing error (Wiggle Campag Zondas anyone!!?) - so you pays your money, you takes your choice.0 -
^ Exactly.
Go in a shop if you want them same day, or buy from a well known online retailer if you want them in 2 or 3 (or next day if you pay for it) days.
If you are happy to buy from abroad through a site you have no experience of just to get it a bit cheaper then who knows.
If its really cheap then others are probably ordering it too, so showing as in stock (if it ever was in the first place) means nothing.
No harm in contacting them to chase it up though. I would personally not ask on here before I did that anyway.0 -

Yes, they are hard to get hold of, but when I bought my wheels I got prompt very helpful replies from Bjorn Glasner. Try emailing him on bg@4thbk.de
He is the Geschaftsfuhrer, which I think means it's as high as you can go.0 -
If you are waiting for something from Shiny bikes....you may as well buy it from elsewhere.
Still waiting for an item from them gone 3 months now.0 -

Some companies are better at customer interaction than others - even in the UK.
However, I was probably just being jittery about the order. The company involved have been informative in responses to questions but yes I do feel that some UK companies excel in customer feedback - so at long last we do have high expectations. ... whereas in the past that "allow for 28 days delivery" was a bad 1970's joke.0 -
Oh god. Shiny bikes. Coming up 2 weeks now for some Vittoria Pave 27mm tyres I ordered. Emailed them. No response. Think they're pulling my plonka.0

So, probably the last time I buy from the EU zone for a while despite the Euro temptations .. it is back to the good old days of yore... "allow 21 days for delivery" is still the norm.. stil havent received but at least it landed in Britain last night.. I could walked it from Cologne quicker.0

I bought a frame recently from shiny bikes. Their website will say they have stuff in stock they don't and they definitely don't read or respond to emails. However, if you give them a ring they'll be able to give you info about your order. My frame arrived safe and sound bought at a very good price.0 -
EU rules are 30 days from memory - unless specifically agreed.0
-
Most companies I deal with like Wiggle, Evans, Amazon are pretty upfront about delivery timescales, and usually beat them, e.g. free delivery usually states 3-5 days but more often than not it's actually 2 days.
Some others however word things carefully, like next day delivery actually being next day after dispatch, which they may take three days to get around to.0 -
