problem with changing gears in mud

Hi, just got new bike and took it into woods trail
With some mud and water and my got chain jammed 2 times.
All gears were in mud and made some lichens noise while
Pedalling. Then chain got
Jammed, is it because of mud? Is it normal?
The bike is a scott aspect 950 and got me worried if it not too fragile
For such offroad use.
Thanks

The components on the Scott will be the same as on many more aggressive riding bikes, mud in the gears will create problems, use a decent wet lube and it's less likely to stick in place, that and plan your path through the mud better next time!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

But probably, yes.
it kinda slips from front sprocket
and jams between smallest one and a frame.
I guess I should avoid changing gears when all is covered in mud.
BTW salesman in store told me you don't lub new bike, is it true?
Something tells me if I did lub the chain I wouldn't have these problems.0 -
You do need to lube the chain. Make sure it's nice and clean before you lube it though.
If it's dropping off the smallest ring then you need to adjust the bottom stop screw on the front derailleur.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
