I'm think about heading to Gran Canaria next February and having never been before I was hoping people would be able to advise me where to stay and what sort of routes are over there.
I found a company called Free Motion that offer guided tours which looked quite good, has anyone got any expierence of them or other companies that offer a similar service?
How about where to stay, I guess most hotels are bike friendly, but good food is a must after a long day in the saddle?
Cheers,
Dave

Freemotion are great you can even go on organised rides with them. Much better to hire from them than take your own bike they have 32 rear sprockets, so you will be geared up for the terrain over there. I prefer GC to Majorca because of the guaranteed weather and the climbing, that's if you like climbing scenery is stunning too. Take some recovery drink with you seems pretty hard to get over there for some reason.
I usually stay in one of the many self catering apartments.0 -
I was lucky enough to be based in Bahia Feliz, just north of Maspalomas two years ago and had a great time.
I wouldn't look past Free motion. Excellent shop with top bikes. Their website has the routes they take so you don't have to go on the guided tours if you don't want to. There's plenty of routes on Strava too. Riding there is awesome I much prefer it to Tenerife. Great roads, patient drivers, perfect weather, though it does get a little windy at times. Base yourself in Maspalomas, or one of the quieter nearby resorts - there's plenty of quality rides from here.
If you are looking for n+1, they have a lot of great condition used Cannondale bikes available to buy. Email them or check on their website to find out their stock. Rather than hire, you could buy a bike off them day one and save the rental fee and go home with a discounted quality bike. They'd probably arrange to ship it back to the UK for you too at the end of your holiday.0 -
Thanks for the advice guys, can anyone recommend any good hotels to stay in?0

The interior is the best, amazing riding. The further inland you go from the coast the better it gets. In fact, unless you're very attached to the beach I'd recommend finding an inland place to stay. You'd need a car though. Great roads aroung Tejeda, San Bartolome and Artenara in particular. Excellent tarmac almost everywhere on the island0

I go self catering. Stayed at Apartmento Dorotea last time. Cheap and 200m from Freemotion.
Freemotion is a superb shop, the only thing I would say is take your own preferred energy stuff. They have a limited range, maybe one supplier and i cannot remember which one I'm afraid but take your own to be safe.0
