CO2 cartridges which one?

I carry a compact pump but today I had a slowly deflating tyre(after a repaired flat 15 mins before). Before you ask -yes I checked for foreign objects in the tyre but I couldn't find anything.
So - a helpful passing fellow roadie stops and offers me a blast from his CO2 canister to get me home. I was so impressed by how convenient it was compared to my pump that I made my mind up there and then to invest in a CO2 cartridge.
I looked online and there are loads to choose from, please recommend to me the ones that you use and work well.
Thanks.

  • I think the micro inflators work well - Lezyne one is quite smart. I started the the Genuine Innovations nano and that was fine though not quite as refined. Be aware that you really need to deflate and re-inflate when you get home as CO2 inflated tyres soften overnight. But that's no big deal if you have a track pump

  • buy the cheapest possible, these do the job

I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles
  • I prefer the inflators that just push on, as opposed to ones that screw on. This is based on an experience with a loose valve. I didn't have the means with me to tighten the valve back in. I could inflate the tyre, but unscrewing the inflator pulled the valve stem out. A passing roadie had a push on one and that worked. The loose valve held until I got home.

These are even cheaper, and small, which is nice if you are tight for space.

I agree with this in principle but I use this

and buy canister's ten at a time from a catering supplies company off EBAY as they are way way cheaper than any bike oriented source!

Personally I like the screw on ones as push ons can leak if your not careful (that said maybe my technique was poor or the inflator not so good [if in doubt blame tools!])
  • It's good to have some control - nothing worse than seeing your only cartridge pi55 into the atmosphere. Plus, the quality of the sealing rings isn't so good as I discovered. Again, reliability is more important than saving a quid or two, wasting a cartridge and having to walk.

  • I would definitely recommend this one:

I like the fact it won’t freeze your hand off like a bare canister will with micro-chuck on the end (unless you have a neoprene sock over it or similar), as the cart is contained within the plastic body.

It pushes on easily, and has a trigger operation for controlled inflation. Also has a safety catch so you don’t accidentally splurge your gaseous much everywhere. I’ve also got a Specialized AirChuck thingy, but despite being much smaller/ lighter, its nowhere near as good.

I got a few carts from the bike shop, but I will order online next- somehwhere like here: http://co2cartridges.co.uk/index.php?ac ... tegory=303 although with added postage, similar eBay outfits are of similar price.

I would recommend the Genuine Innovations Ultraflate plus.
It's a little big and bulky but means you can use threaded or threadless cartridges and is a pleasure to use.
    Never had any issues/failures.

I'd hardly call it bulky. Probably about same size as one of those crazy nano-pumps :D

Oh, they also double-up as an effective device for incapacitating wayward chavs & "status", dogs

    (only joking)
