Currently I use a 1TB mybook to back up about 600Gb from my C drive - and then another - just in case. Mainly music, photos, DVD and porn. I have some secret stuff too. I am very nervous about using mechanical storage and would sooner rely on a service provider. Any suggestions and any comments about secret stuff - should I encrypt it

As soon as you store anything on the cloud you are giving up control of it. Also if the cloud provider shuts down you could lose everything with no way back. Best to keep a spare local copy as well.
  • As above.

Once its in the cloud, its only a password away from the worst thing possible fappening.

However, I've had the same external HD for about 10 years now and had no issues thus far. Anything I want to make sure I never lose is on disks and stored in soft wallet things just in case.

I'm going persist with this because I'm not happy with using hard drives - I have seen the controls around BtoB cloud storage and they are impressive and I guess that the service providers will be using one of these farms anyway. Encryption is the way round unauthorised access and I've nothing to hide from the people who can unpick 256 bit codes anyway. So does anyone have a recommendation on a service provider?
