Base Layer Recommendation

Helly Lifas are my go to for all outdoors stuff. I have a couple of long sleeved ones that are probably ten years old. I have a Mountain Hardwear short sleeved one that is really good but was £25 (potentially cheaper online).
I also recently picked up a couple of short sleeved Karrimor base layers from Sports Direct - they aren't amazing but they do the job and they were 2 for £120 -

Merino is okay for easy rides but can't hack it when you really start to work hard (and I have several)Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
This base layer is the one I've been using, long lasting, doesn't hold on to any smells and has always kept me warm.

+ 1 for HH and Nike (they ones sold for footballers at sports direct)
Also recently bought one of these http://www.decathlon.co.uk/300-longsleeve-cycling-baselayer-black-id_8217439.html and very happy with it: Warm, tight fit and soft on the skin.0 -

"shiver down spine" Not because of snobbery, but because I tried one and it was the most itchy/scratchy thing I'd put on in years...awful (some people liked it though)
Planet x seem to do cheap merino - anyone recommend them? (ps rapha ones are great if you can get them in sales etc)
Yep, I've got Planet X merino base layers and they hold up/wear just fine ...
I've also got one of their techy/stretchy man made base layer thingies which is also really rather good for £12.00Still thinking of something clever to say!0 -
