Being married with daughter at uni, mortgage, cars, bills to pay etc. doesn't leave a lot of cash for bikes. You can pick up some really good bikes at decent prices 2nd hand if your prepared to wait and search till the right one comes along. Both my bikes are 2nd hand both less than a year old and both came with proof of purchase by the seller.I got both bikes from fleabay but i did go and see them before buying just contacted the sellers and arranged a viewing. First i bought a Kona Tanuki dl for £635 and just last week bought a Boardman 29er pro for £500 both bikes are immaculate condition though the Kona needed a new free hub body but seller made me aware of this. 15812648682_d6425d454d_z.jpg

Not even any heel rub on the crank arms it's had so little use.

  • Very nice! I'm in a similar position to you, although have to rent as house price increases have meant deposits have grown faster than my savings.
Managed to pick up a 2012 Voodoo Hoodoo recently for £150 that had probably been ridden all of 1 mile. Amazing what you can pick up if you're patient enough.
  • I do enjoy an mtb bargain story to contrast the increasing prices of new bikes and kit.

Good bargain hunting and both bikes look great. My brother in law bought a Boardman pro Mtb (2012) for about £500. It needed a good clean and that was it. New would have been around a £1,000.

There are some great deals to be had if you look around a bit, I picked up a cyclocross bike the other week for half its retail price, it was a 2014 model with next to no use. Bargain.

I suspect there are a few people who get bikes on the bike to work scheme and just never use them and then get rid.... Marketing tells us that we need the latest gear and 11 speed this or that, luckily for those of us that see through the BS it means 2nd hand stuff in great condition is all over the place.

Wow what great deals you got and even though your bikes are way above what can ever afford i gotta admire your good judgement of quality 8) ..

That Tanuki was a bargain..and the boardman looks great too.

2nd hand is certainly a way to get something nicer on a budget...I picked up a carbon Kona Kula for £470 last week..delighted
