Record skeleton brakes and archetype rims

just upgraded my calipers to Campagnolo Record skeleton calipers and was a bit upset at having to go back to 25mm tyres. The continental gp4 seasons were rubbing on the caliper and wouldn't turn freely.
I'm currently buying parts to build a new set of wheels and wanted some advice really.
Does anyone currently run these calipers with H plus son archetype rims ??? Don't want to but them and find the wider rims change the tyre shape and find it rubbing
Cheers

I run Record skeleton brakes with Archetypes. No problems at all with Schwalbe One 23mm tyres, which are fairly big for their stated size. Plenty of room under calipers. I reckon 25mm tyres would be fine.0

That's good to hear thanks for that...
I can confidently order the rims nowSpecialized S Works SL2 . Campagnolo Record 11spd. rolling on Campag Zonda wheels

No too soon.....
Depends entirely on your frame and has nothing to do with the brakes....0 -
I don't think it is entirely down to the frame. The shape of the brake arch is also important, for example my single pivot rear Record brake seems to have less clearance than my dual pivot Athena rear caliper. SRAM Apex brakes have more clearance than either of the Campag brakes due to a higher arch with less material in it. Frame is obviously the principle factor but the size/shape of the brake arch is also important (something Shimano seemed to have taken into account on the new 5800/6800 calipers)0

You make a valid point. But OP has already run 28mm tyres successfully on his frame so frame clearance would appear to be sufficient. It seems to me his concern is whether the wider rims will mean his tyres rub his new calipers which clearly have less clearance than his old calipers. I had the same concern when I ordered some Archetype wheels. The wider rims mean the tyre runs slightly wider but has a slightly lower profile. Certainly on my bike, which has fairly tight clearances on the seat tube, there's plenty of room around the tyres under the Record calipers.0 -
Yep I was running 25mm tyres with no issue, I had to swap back 23mm when I bought the new calipers as the record skeleton hugs the tyre a lot more than the old calipers. So with this in mind I know things are tight as it is. A change of shape could see my 23mm tyres rubbing again which I would be wounded about. Frame is roubaix sl2 S Works, but I don't think that comes into the problem myselfSpecialized S Works SL2 . Campagnolo Record 11spd. rolling on Campag Zonda wheels

To assume a tyre will build lower on a wider rim is dangerous as this is not alway true.
Consider the rim+tyre as a circle.
If you add a few mm to the circumference of the circle, the diameter if this circle will grow....which is reported by people all over the world.
I think the following is valid for these matter: If the tyre is already relative wide compared with the rim (f.i. a 25 mm on a 15C rim) the combination 17C rim/25 mm tyre will build higher.
Besides that, its time for the designers to greate more clearence in frames and forks as the brakes will allowe bigger tyres already and the trend goes clearly in the direction of 25 mm and more as standard for non race-specific frames.0 -
All sounds very technical there.. But I understand the basics.
Basically just need the nod from people who ride the combination I want to use
Mercia man has said this works for him so I'm hoping my choice of tyre will work also.
I much prefer the gp4season tyre at the minuteSpecialized S Works SL2 . Campagnolo Record 11spd. rolling on Campag Zonda wheels

I run Vittoria Evo Corsa 25mm on Neutron rims with record brakes and its quite tight. The under side of the caliper is now silver rather than black. This is a single pivot caliperPegoretti

If you have really tight clearances between the brake arch and tyre. It is sometimes possible to win a little extra clearance by using a pair of those concave/convex washers that Sram/Avid use on disc brakes to assist alignment.
Insert washers between caliper and brake bridge and angle the caliper upwards slightly. It only requires a degree or so of tilt to gain a few mm underneath.
Just remember the pads will need realignment with the rim and ensure the caliper bolt is long enough to hold securely or replace with a slightly longer one.Mud to Mudguards. The Art of framebuilding.
