I have successfully used Chris King bottom brackets with SRAM GXP cranks using CK adapter kits. Could I use a CK GXP adaptor (just a 22 to 24 mm sleeve really) to fit the GXP crank into a Shimano style BB?

It might work, but it critically depends on BB shell length and whether the crank retainer bolt can be fully tightened and not overload the bearings or leave too much axial play. An SRAM wavey washer might help in terms of the latter.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    It depends.

Without knowing how the reducer fits. And what types of bearing are used it is hard to say.

But as SRAM use a no preload system and Shimano require preload you might have problems.

I would not use shimano bearings in that way.

Ah yes, I hadn't thought of the actual differences in the bearings, just the shaft diameter. I'll bin that idea!
