Right I'm going to Florida for 2 weeks in February and would love to go for a ride some where. Me and partner are stopping in Clearwater for 5 days and Orlando for 9 I would rather go while we are in Clearwater. Has any body done this and have any advice for me I would greatly appreciate it. I have a garmin and could take it with me to plan a route on so I don't get lost but as I don't how busy any of the roads are id rather not get any nasty surprises

Cheers for any help.

  • Roads around Clearwater are allegedly ok, you'll see a few roadies. Orlando has the highest cyclist death rate in the USA I'm told, it's full of tourists :-). A lot of cyclist to be seen on minor roads between the large towns, but the roads are straight and boring. I've found American drivers to be generally careful around me on my bike, just be careful at the junctions re filter lanes etc and remember you can turn right on red ( sometimes)

I know the area very well my father in law had a place not dpfar away, trust me it's not the tourists you need to worry about. Florida is know in the USA as gods waiting room, driving standards to match.

I've ridden there but on the most remote roads, if you must stay away from all main roads far away.

PS. I'll be back there in July sans bike, jet ski and walking ...around malls
