Why no Planet X RT-58 reviews?

Planet X seem to be a pretty big outfit and certainly sell a few bikes. The RT-58 is one of their flagship bikes and IMO a good frame. It has been out for at least a couple of years if I'm not mistaken.

Surely the UK cycling press should have reviewed this bike by now?!

  • Is it perhaps that PX havent sent a bike to be reviewed? Maybe they don't need to.

Probably. I just imagined cycling journos might be a little more proactive than that.
  • Going to take a wild punt and say it's because the cycling press is funded by major manufactures who probably don't want you to hear a £1k bike is as good as their £3k bike.

And there's a lot of cycle snobs who would be gutted to hear that a 1k bike is as good as/better than their 3k bike, even though their "mates" at the LBS tell them differently ......... Mags need readers. Readers don't buy mags that don't tell them what they want to hear.

  • Planet X is probably doing just fine without the reviews in magazines. I can't think of a single cyclist who isn't aware of them, so they are marketing just fine.

Canyon and Rose have plenty of reviews.

I'm doing just fine, but if someone offered to help me completely corner the market I'd jump on it!

My thoughts - and now Canyon have a 4 month wait list for just a frame...

Fantastic frame. I have a custom built Viner Maxima and brought the RT 58 as a winter trainer simply because the measurements of the stock frame were as close to the custom built as I could find at that price. The Maxima is an amazingly responsive frame, but I can honestly say that I don't notice that much difference when riding the RT 58.
