Garmin - New Speed and Cadence sensors won't pair

Don't think I am the only person having issues with trying to pair my Edge 500 with the new Garmin separate speed and cadence sensors.
So far I have tried the following
1) Taken batteries out and reinstalled and they are both working
2) Checked that sensors on Edge are set to speed and cadence (not speed/cadence)
3) Rescanned both items and.........
......nothing. Edge doesn't even show that sensors are present. On one screen it allows sensor ids to be input but this didn't work either.
Any ideas out there?

Can you pair them to a friend's unit?

Yep, have got those instructions but no joy.
  • Make sure you are nowhere near any other sensors.
Turn your Garmin off for five minutes.
    Turn it back on
Got to the settings and tell it you do not have any sensors
Then tell it you do have a cadence sensor and search
Repeat for speed sensor or dont bother and just use the GPS

So did mine, it was easy.
Then when the battery ran down I swapped it out and it has never paired since, no matter what I try.
The Garmin sees the sensor and the sensor appears to be working fine, but it doesn't matter what I do, they are no longer a couple. Luckily counseling got me through it, but this doesn't help the OP. :(
