Will Giant Defy take 26mm tyres?

More specifically anyone know if they will fit with the standard giant guards? Fancy a set of these;

But would rather run 26s than 23, currently running 25. I'm guessing they would fit without guards :|

    I run 28mm GP4S on mine, plenty of room left although I haven't got mudguards fitted

    25mm with GP4S fit fine with mudguards on my Defy - I'm running Mavic Aksiums though rather than stock wheels, so may depend on your wheels.

    Assume you mean 28mm rather than 26mm?

    The Gravel king come in 23, 26, and 28mm sizes. Panracer tyres tend to be accurately sized so if you want to run a 26 with your Giant mudguards, (they are designed for 23/25mm tyres), I would order 1 from a retailer who has a returns policy and do a trial test fit.

    I don't think you will have a problem with mudguards removed, the clearance issue will be under the metal bracket that attaches the guards to the fork crown and rear seat stay bridge. As mentioned above it will also depend on the wheel rim you are using.

    My 25c GP4S measured 26c when I measured them and I ran them on a Defy with the Defy mudguards no issue.

    Hmm, I've had to take the 25s off my Defy, as they rub very slightly against the Giant mudguards, and I can't adjust the mudguards to clear them. Maybe that's my user error (I think that they are supposed to be compatible) but I wouldn't trust a 26.

    What wheel and tyre combination are you using? You may need to do a bit of fettling to get the required clearance.

    I'm not sure they'll fit with mudguards on. The clearances are very close and its a bit of a squeeze even with the standard 25s. The mudguards also seem to hit the tyres a lot when going over bumps and 26s will only make this worse.

    I wouldn't recommend it.
  • Sooo picked up a tyre from Amazon of all places just to test (much cheaper than usual places) popped it on, fitted first time. Had a run out today, no problems. Obviously tyre has a bit more rolling resistance but seemed really grippy, very pleased. Tested tyre on the back, little tight had to adjust the guard but fits perfectly, no rub. With the standard guards I'd say 26mm is the max you could get on. Certainly the widest I'd go. For anyone else looking would recommend.

    On my aluminium Defy frame I can only just fit the stock 23mm Giant tyres with either the Defy specific mudguards or Road Racer 2's - I'm a bit cheesed off with it to be honest as I specifically bought the frame to build up a wet weather bike and really wanted to fit 25mm GP 4 Seasons. Not sure whether to sell the frame and start again or sell the brand new Conti tyres I bought !!

    Yep - it appears all things (Defy's in this case) are not created equally ! I've got two Defy's, a Composite 1 and a Defy 1 (frame and fork). There is more clearance on the Composite that the Ally one. My B-in-law also has an ally one where there is more clearance too. My local Giant dealer has checked my frame and it is genuine, the only explanation he could make was that my size, XL can make a difference and he also stated that they changed the design of the rear brake bridge at some point too, so depends on what year you have. The defy mudguards don't fit an XL frame at the bottom contact point (on the back) but I was prepared to frig it.
