Hi all,
After getting my Bianchi stolen last week by thieving scum I am now looking for a replacement for my commute starting next year. My commute is 20 miles each way and has some small inclines but nothing major. Can anyone recommend me a bike for up to £2k that is also pretty good for longer rides if I fancy it on a weekend.
I would like Ultegra or equivalent from another manufacturer as I wasn't overly impressed with my Bianchi 105 group set. I have looked at the Planet X Nanolight which I like but am not sure if there is anything better out there for the money as the finishing set / wheels etc are PX kit.
I was also considering this Planet X Nanolight http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141450040259 but am not sure it's worth the price.
I was also wondering whether to wait for the new year in case there are bargains to be had.
Any recommendations are much appreciated.

Canyon Ultimate CF SL (http://www.canyon.com/en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=3587). Check the reviews, that should be enough to convince you! 6.9Kg for under £2k too
Only draw back is you might have to wait for it. Might be one in your size here though - http://www.canyon.com/en/shop/expressbi ... pressbikes0 -
That looks great value. I'll check that out and may well order one of these. Reviews look good too. Once I get my payout I should be in a position to order.
Thanks0 -
Buy a £200 communter, £1800 on something decent.I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0

I will only be commuting on it when the weather is fine. It's more for fitness than necessity.0 -
have a look at these http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/ and read the magazine & personal test reports on their website. Tried their carbon gran fondo at the NEC in september & my order's going in late Jan, early Feb depending on delivery projections. Fair weather rider I'm afraid. You may need google translate for some of the magazine tests.Road: Rose CDX-3000 Cannondale CAADX 105 2011

I agree with buying a dedicated commuter bike, even if it's a 2nd hand 2300 equipped entry level machine as it'll still be pretty much as quick as the £2k machine, but you won't loose too much sleep if it gets pinched if you need to leave it outside, and you won't care so much if it gets filthy in the winter.
Have you looked at the BMC Teammachine SLR02? It won BOTY last year and competes with the new Cervelo R2 (same frame as last year's R3 dark edition) for the top spot on my list of carbon machines.
Yes, they both come with 11speed 105, but it is still a step up from last year when they would have had the 10spd version but really I'd be buying it for the frame to upgrade as I went along.
On either of those I'd probably change the wheels to a 1500g or so pair and groupset to Ultegra or Rival when funds allow- either bike would probably provide a very classy ride.0 -
Thanks guys. I have an old Coppi Lombardia here which needs a bit of work which I may use as well. Although as I say I'll only be commuting on nice days as it is for my fitness. It will be in a secure place rather than parked on the street somewhere. I may well wait until the new year to order in any case which will allow me to research these some more.0

The 2015 Focus Cayos are worth a look - this one is full Ultegra and is less than £2k:
http://www.focus-bikes.com/gb/en/bikes/ ... yo-50.html
Actually it £1899 - http://www.northernride.com/Focus-Cayo- ... 0-2015.htm0 -
Genesis Volare 931 stainless steel Ultegra are available for around £17000

2015 super six ultegra is down to £2000, just shift the aksiums in the spring.
The 2015 lapierre xelius 400 is £2500 but you may be able to get a deal on it plus it has ksyrium elites on so no upgrade needed. The yellow on it looks great in the flesh.25th August 2013 12hrs 37mins 52.3 seconds 238km 5500mtrs FYRM Never again.0 -
You can get a Scott Addict 20 for about £1500 at the moment.Rose Xlite Team 3100 Di2

I concur with the suggestion of the Canyon Ultimate CF SL 9.0.
I got one in early summer and have been very happy with it. Super bike for the money.0 -
the Ultimate AL is also a great frame and will save you some cash. It can also build up into something very light if you want to upgrade lighter. I got mine down to 6.7kg with SRAM. Either way the SL or AL will both be great though you may be waiting a while as I think theyre a long waiting list.0

Canyon SL owner signing in, great bike. Lots of choice on Canyon website, the Alu bikes look pretty damn good too.Trainer Road Blog: https://hitthesweetspot.home.blog/

Cross bike for the clearances if you want to fit guards to it and make it a proper commuter.
If its a dry weather only - then theres lots to choose from.0 -
For that money you can buy a really nice frame, Ultegra and wheels of your choice from loads of different manufacturers.
Most of these things are personal taste, but how about a Roubaix with disc wheels?0 -

Well I found one - a 50cm size....
Anyway, if you want a slightly less than full-on race geometry carbon beauty, then Genesis have a couple that would meet your needs, the Equlibrium, or Equlibrium Disc, and give change from your 2 grand.0 -
I'd say it depends on how far your commute is and what type of route you take.
If it were me, and it was for mainly commuting I'd spend up to £1k on a Cycle-X/ Commuter type bike with clearance for larger tyres, disc breaks and Shimano 105/ SRAM Apex/ Rival. You'd still be able to do longer weekend rides on it and have the additional bonus of being able to throw it down the towpaths and/ or forest trails Spend the excess $ on decent lights and erm, lock :!:

Just been into the LBS - they had the new Genesis Zero.2 (£1500) and Zero.4 (£2000) - nice0
-
If you haggle you might get a new for 2015 Tarmac and Allez all for two grand - same geometry on both assuming same size0

There's a 54 on the bay for £17500 -
Genesis Zero.4, same frame as the Zero team that their pro team race on but with a full Ultegra groupset, I think it's a bargain at £2k - http://www.genesisbikes.co.uk/bikes/road/zero/zero-40

That Pearson looks decent, agree with above. Just get some slick tyres for it.I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -

I know, I'm sorely tempted by the Pearson. Our C2W scheme is open from tomorrow... I just don't have room right now for another bike0 -
I do think Pearson’s might be missing a trick a bit though with pricing it above £1k, as a lot of C2W schemes have an upper limit of £1k don’t they? Ours is £2.5k (worryingly).
I think if they priced it similarly to the Planet-X (£999), the new Merlin (£999) etc they may get more sales…?

Well I've had my claim validated and ive ended up getting a Scott CR1 10 which cost me £500 in the end. So I ended up getting £1100 for my claim and the bike was only covered for £700. Long story but I'm happy with the prospect of the new bike coming on Tuesday.0
