Hi guys,

I want to complete my checklist for going cycling in foreign countries. What information do you need when you are planning this kind of traveling. What do you check in advance.

Hi Loshmi

It depends a lot where you're going to: eg if you're an EU citizen travelling in the EU you don't need to worry about visas, but if you're going outside Europe then you probably do. Depending on where you're going you may also need/want to check out whether you need to get vaccinations, or research health insurance, or check the FCO travel advice. If you're a woman you may need to check out issues about security/harassment, what to wear etc.

Among the items on my check list:
Photocopy passport and visa, if applicable
Scan and email copy of same
Notify my credit card company and bank
If renting bike then place water bottles, maps,helmet, shoes, pedals, sunglasses, and one riding kit in carry on
Place any tools. gels and chamois cream in checked bag
Study area on Google Earth or Maps
Take an older cell phone and buy a local phone card
Let someone know where to find me
Have a great trip.
