I'm a great fan of Vittoria Rubino Pro and they can be found at around £15 or cheaper. Be aware that some people complain of poor grip in the wet whereas other (like me) have never had a problem. The latest theory is that 25C are ok whereas 23C are questionable - just a theory. Anyhow, I find that they roll very well and (in my experience) have much better puncture protection than GP4000S (again, others will say no). I'd take the Rubinos over the GP4000 every time - but that's just me.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

Certainly avoid them if in Yorkshire. I've just found another member of our club who finds them sketchy and unpredictable. He is a very experienced cyclist and one time serious racer in the 70s and 80s so I tend to take his opinion seriously. I've yet to find anyone around here who has tried them and liked them.
I suspect they are sensitive to different road surfaces and dirt.
Never had any problem with the Schwalbe Durano.Faster than a tent.......0 -
Don't know if the Conti GP is available at a good price in the UK, but I don't ride much else all year round for 19€ piece.
Roll good, almost no flats and good wear resistance.
(not slippery in the wet too....)0 -
I'm a fan of Michelin tyres - Pro4 Endurance are great, can usually be found for £20-22. If your budget is tighter than that, Lithion2 are also pretty decent winter tyres.0

I've had to just retire (!), my rear Pro4 Endurance as I've worn it square (and it's never been punctured).
In fact, in using P4 Es for the last three years I've had one puncture- and that was a snakebite caused by a pothole. Prior to that, I was on Krylions (previous incarnation of P4Es), and they were just as good.
Never known a tyre more resistant to cutting-up. Ever.
Just to clarify, were talking about P4 ENDURANCE here and not the regular P4 SC which are much more an out n out race tyre.0 -
+1 for Vittoria Rubino - good choice for general purpose, low cost tyre and good for anything other than the worst of the winter weather.
My Bianchi came with Vredestein Fiammante tyres - worst tyres I have ever come across - feel like plastic and my rear tyre exploded after a couple of hundred miles - one to avoid.Bianchi ImpulsoBMC Teammachine SLR02 01Trek Domane AL3“When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race. “ ~H.G. GP 4000 S or SII as a spring, sumer and early autumn tyre are unbeatable in terms of grip, speed and puncture resistance, not so much durability. You can buy a pair for £50 or thereabouts if you know where to look (e.g Rose)
The Rubino Pro's are like their poor brother, they roll well, they are fairly quick and as puncture resistance, but grip is definitely worse than with GP 4000 S in my experience. You can get a pair for £30 though.
For autumn and winter it is a bit different though, I would get something which is a bit tougher, the best in terms of grip and speed but scarifying in longevity you should look at the Vittoria Pave's and GP 4 Seasons. For something tougher at the expense of speed and grip, Duranos, the P4 Endurances etc are some of the best options.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
