3T Seat Post Length Measurements

Hi,

I'm looking at getting a new 3T seat post for the winter road bike (specifically a 3T Ionic Pro) and was wondering what 3T's conventions for measuring seat post length was. Is the stated length (e.g. 280, 350, 420mm) the total length of the post, or the amount of post that will be showing at the minimum insertion?

Intuitively it should be the latter in my opinion, but I suspect it's probably the former. If it is the total length, does anyone know what the minimum insertion on a 3T 'Pro' level (i.e. aluminium) seat post is and thus, what the maximum amount of showing post there could be for a given length?

I need ~250mm of post showing, so was wondering if I could get away with the shortest variant, but I suspect probably not.

Thanks for any help!

  • I'm fairly certain they are the total length for most companies, but someone may correct me. I would guess you will need the 350.

3T's measurement is for the overall length as is for all of the manufacturers and is conveniently marked on the seat post.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

Some appear to be overall length but others appear to be just the length of the 'post' excluding the head/clamp.

Your seatpost should be inserted into the frame so there is at least 10mm below the bottom of the weld on the top tube/seat tube join. You might need the 420mm post in that case.
