I manage to annoy my wife on a daily basis by channel surfing and finding 2 or 3 programmes about the Nazis. Yesterday she told me that we Brits are so fascinated by Hitler it's a pity we didn't lose the war so we could have him as our ruler.

No, I was too busy looking for more stuff about Nazis to annoy her with.

Maybe with programmes about Ernst Graf zu Reventlow.
  • How does the song go about Hitler?

Hitler, he only had one wheel....

Yep, we've noticed this too... is it some kind of propaganda?

Is there something I'm missing here?

Look, if there had been no Hitler then the National Socialists would have had no forceful leader and the Communists would have taken over the government of depressed and inflation-ridden Germany and then they would have got pally with the USSR and the USA would have stayed isolationist until December 1941, which they did anyway apart from a little lend-lease which we wouldn't have needed anyway but a Communist Germany would have palled up with Stalin up to a point and little Fascist Italy would have gone it alone with dreams of Libya and beyond and much of Central and Southern Europe would still have horrid despotic monarchies and Czechoslovakia would have become the industrial giant that Germany became and modern Daimler-Benz products would have been like 70s Skodas under Communism and we'd all hanker after a Skoda and Austria still wouldn't matter because it never did and the Maginot Line would be hailed as the greatest thing ever and we'd have lost the Empire anyway but maybe we'd have hung onto some of the oil for longer and there would have been no Bismark, no Spitfire, so no Kenneth More films no Cruel Sea, no In Which We Serve, no Too Late The Hero, no Lancaster, no Dambusters, no Dickie Attenborough being a plucky naval rating, commando, infantryman or whatever and no David Niven in The Way Ahead so no Dad's Army and also no KdF Wagen so no Volkswagen so no Porsche 911 or 912 and no Das Boot and.... what was the question?

No-one would have heard a song about anyone only having one bollock.
  • Then Himmler or similar would have led the Nazi party and not much would have been different.
It being Movember, I'm hoping to claim back the toothbrush moustache. We don't give people with side-partings odd looks (relatively speaking), so why throw out the stylish 'tache with the fuehrer-water?

On a serious note, it's an interesting question. Whether the Soviet Union would have taken Germany's place as the empire-building superpower in Europe is open to debate; Stalin only became expansionist as a reaction to Hitler's land-grabbing.

Certainly, aeronautics would not have evolved so quickly - war is a great accelerator of technology - and the relationship between the UK and the USA would be different, probably less close. Plus Churchill would never have come to power, so a generation of Daily Fail readers would have to find a new war-monger to idolise  .

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Really? Stalin and Russia were expansionist long before Hitler was.. The Russian empire was large, cruel and imperialist. Ever heard of the holodomor? The Nazis and Soviets were one and the same - they embarked on the same expansionist policies, witness what they both did to Poland.. Stalin = Hitler. Same thing.
