Hi all, just wanted to build up a cyclocross carbon rim.

Since there are 32-35mm wide mtb rims popping up (i.e. enve etc), is it possible to fit a 32 or 35mm cyclocross (i.e. continental x king cyclocross or a schwalbe racing ralph cyclocross) tyres to these mtb rims?

Thanks in advance.

  • You can fit them but I don't know how well they would hold up to any sort of serious riding. We fitted a 33mm Fango to a set of American Classic Wide Lightnings and it gave them a really wide profile, almost 40mm!

    ^ this.

The UCI limit for tyre width is 33mm (that's the actual width of the tyre when mounted on the rim and inflated). This doesn't apply to local league racing, but most frames seem to be designed around that width. If you use something substantially wider, you're likely to run into issues with mud clearance in some conditions. Having run Clements on Iron Cross rims, which came out somewhere over 40mm, I have some experience of this
    Pannier, 120rpm.
  • Thanks!

Guess the wide 29er rim idea is out of the question...
